First Olympic Distance Triathlon - 2008

The time has come for me to step up to the next level and do the longer length Triathlons. Last year was the first time I did a Sprint Triathlon and completed 4 for the season. This season I have started with two Sprint Triathlons and met my goal to get into the first half of the field (top 30% last race). Now the time is right to go the extra distance.

Great Victorian Bike Ride - 2007

In 2007 my son, my father-in-law and I decided that we would challenge ourselves to go on the Great Vic Bike ride, run by bicycle Victoria. The ride consists of seven days of camping and riding, traveling an average of 80kms per day. I’m a fairly strong rider so the distance wasn’t ever going to be a problem, and I have never had a problem with camping. My father-in-law, Rick, is a strong rider, but we thought he may have some difficulty with sleeping on the ground every night, and some aspects of the camping. My son, Daniel, had just turned twelve and is fairly strong on the bike and has great handling skills, but has a few problems with rides that take a high amount of endurance. We both thought that we’d do a bit of training, and give it a go. It sounded like a lot of fun, so we thought we’d go with the flow- give it all we had and get as much out of it, and have as much fun and adventure as we possibly could. With twelve weeks to go before the ride we set some training goals and started to think about and list what we would take with us on the ride  .........................

Triathlon - Gatorade First sprint event for 2007

The first sprint triathlon of the 2007-2008 series was a memorable one. I have only done 4 other sprint tri’s and with all of them I have had to battle with the heat. This time Melbourne presented its uniquely typical 4 seasons in one day. Unfortunately it started the day off with cold, wet winter. By the end of the day, well after the conclusion of the event, it was a hot and sunny 35 DegC.

Triathlon - First time beginner

I have been thinking about doing a triathlon for a few years but I have always had a leg that I was not very committed to. Several years ago (probably more than I want to say) I used to do some running.  I then took up swimming as cross training. With a changing life style I kept up the swimming but dropped the running. A few years later I started riding

My favourite Ride - Melb city to Mt Dandenong

Mount Dandenong is a special place for Melbourne cyclists, since it’s the closest peak to Melbourne. There are a few ways to climb it and all of them let you feel a degree of the pain that the Tour riders must experience. This is the time that many of us feel those extra kgs accumulated over the holidays. On the flat the extra kgs are not so noticeable but when you get to a decent climb every kg counts.  It might also inspire you to spend the extra on the bike to save some weight. As with all aspects of bike riding, nothing makes up for training and practice. .........................

Team TADVIC Murray to Moyne 2007 - sponsored by Linak
by Peter Brent 26/03/07

It is Saturday morning in Echuca.  Team TADVIC faces the cyclist’s number one enemy.  The enemy is not motorists, hills, punctures or dogs.  It is that invisible frustrating force called a headwind.   A cool change overnight has converted a helpful tailwind into a blustery southwester, the direction in which we are about to ride.

We are comforted by the knowledge that there are another 1,500 cyclists facing the same enemy. This is the Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay, an annual event that raises money for health-related charities.

TADVIC is a small charity that assists people with disabilities. TADVIC co-ordinates unpaid volunteers who devise and construct nifty devices, which solve day-to-day problems associated with disabilities. This is a fantastic service in that it harnesses a lot of goodwill and talent from the community to make life easier for others..................................

Around the Bay in a Day 2006

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2006 Portfolio Partners Around the Bay in a Day on 15 October. Held in Melbourne annually, this ride has become a massive event, with thousands of entrants.

Whilst working in our shops at Elwood and Carrum, we met people from all over the world who have travelled to Melbourne just to ride the ATB. We met cyclists from America, England, Switzerland and more, as well as lots of people from all over Australia.

Situated on Nepean Hwy, our Carrum store was ideally situated for watching the cyclists ride past in either direction. They started riding past as early as 6.15am, while we were opening the shop. Later on, the first riders returning from Sorrento came in for Power Bars and water fill ups.......................
